The Cox Who Became a Metheny

Cox GirlsEvery month I try to feature someone, or something I think interesting. This month my feature is on one whom I have heard say many times; "I'm glad I am a Cox, and not married to one!". Well, I am married to one. But I must have picked the cream of the crop, because it hasn't been half bad at all. True, when the three Cox girls in the picture get together, along with their three brothers, and their mother Laverne, anyone who is NOT a Cox, has one heck of a time getting a word in edgewise, or otherwise! The picture is of My wife Rita (left), Peggy (center), and the baby of the family Phyllis (right). Taken about 1948. After raising three great kids, and putting up with a "Metheny" for almost 39 years, I guess it's my turn to say; "I am glad I am a Metheny, and NOT married to one!"

OUR SON-IN-LAW

After last month when we presented the story of the St Louis Blues trip for Doug, as many of you know, Doug succumbed to leukemia on January 11th. Peacefully, he joined the angels above and now he rests without the pain and suffering. Please keep Christina and Doug in your prayers.

Blue Note Flowers

Flowers from Choice Furniture where
Doug worked, done as a Blues Logo.

Many flowers, planters, and beautiful cards were received by our Christina. Several of his very best friends wrote poems. Several of these we would like to share with you. (Including one by Christina). You can VIEW THEM Here. Christina also did up several frames, making a collage' of pictures of his life. These were taken to the funeral home, and placed on easels for everyone to view Doug as they knew him. See these HERE.

God bless you all for your thoughts and prayers.

MRR Group News

Our Metheny/Matheny email round robin group is at 70 members. I have contacts with several new possible members. Seems thru search engines, and thru geocities, people are finding us. GREAT! The new MRR Central site is thriving, we are getting good response and I thank all you members who use it. Any time you get a person who is interested in the email list group, send them to MRR Central FIRST. That way they can find out all about it, before they decide on joining the email group. This will, I am sure, help new potential members get a good feel about what our group is, and how we operate.

SHORT ONE FROM SANDY

I have to tell this story to someone. I think it's kinda funny. My Grandfather George Matheny and his twin brother John are 97 years old today. Yesterday he had some company (he still lives by himself) and they were talking about how they weren't sick or anything. And my Grandpa looks at Uncle John and said, John you know you never did take care of yourself. I think that at 97 they have done a very good job.

Web Updates:

Well the Holidays have come and gone. Not a really good season this year, with our son-in-law passing away. Also another of our regulars lost her mother last week. Our deepest sympathy goes out to DIANA JONES, and her family. I will put a complete obituary in next months Newsletter. I would have this month but time just ran out, and Diana and her family have all our heartfelt wishes and prayers.

The Matheny/Metheny Association, - Daniel Project is MOVING ALONG! A Committee has been formed, and we have had contacts with an Attorney to make it all legal. Right now we have identified five people who will serve on this years Committee. If anyone else WANTS on and can help, speak up now! The Committee: Keith, Diana, Rhonda, Ed Powell, and myself as coordinator. Check the MRR Central site for more info.

CREDITS and KUDOS

This month I would like to ensure the credits go to the contributors. Diana Jones for shaking out Birthdays (again). To Rita for her ideas, and help. Thanks to Andy Metheny for his decendents list, I am sure that he is surprised to see it up in print so soon! But I am sure there are valuable connections there! Thanks to to the MRR Committee for volunteering their time and efforts.

THE EDITOR/AUTHOR COMMENT
